The first two books focused on improvisation, primarily in four diatonic modes, Ionian, Dorian, Mixolydian, and Aeolian, plus the Harmonic minor mode. This book covers two additional exotic modes: Spanish Phrygian, and Hijaz, in addition to more on the Harmonic minor mode, and gives examples of transitioning from one mode and key to another. The third chapter provides tools for creating arrangements, which is a skill that is useful and even essential for the therapeutic guitarist.
