Verlene played harp, harp-guitar, nyckelharpa, cittra, hardingfele, and violin and sang in Swedish in her trio, Nykken. Joined by Barbary Grant on Norwegian vocals, harp, cello, and button accordion, and Enid Bennion on vocal harmonies and nyckelharpa, Nykken's recording of Scandinavian music, Fager som en ros, was released in 2012. Also included on the album is Verlene's original song, "Sjung lilla näktergal" -- her first song written in Swedish! After Enid left the group at the end of 2012, Kris Yenney joined with her Hardanger cello d'Amore, nyckelharpa, and vocals and played with the trio until 2015. | The
